The first new V-level subjects to be introduced in England from 2027 include education, finance and digital technology, the BBC reported.
The changes will end the stereotypes surrounding vocational education in the over-16 education sector and help young people build strong, future-proof careers, Education Secretary Bridget Phillips said.
It also announced the introduction of GCSE-level further qualifications, aimed at helping students with lower grades continue their education or move into careers.
The Sixth Form Colleges Association welcomed the government’s announcement, particularly the decision to keep the current BTecs qualifications in use while V-levels are gradually introduced.
V-levels are a combination of A-levels, It will run alongside T-levels and will be equivalent to an A-level.
Students will therefore be able to combine academic subjects with vocational subjects if they wish.
V-level subjects starting in 2028 include Business and Management, Care Services, Construction, Engineering and Manufacturing, Health and Science, Law, Sales, Marketing and Procurement, Sport, Fitness and Exercise Science.
In 2029, Agriculture, Environmental and Animal Care, Food and Hospitality, Hair and Beauty, Security and Protection Services will be added, and in 2030,
Arts and Performing Arts, Creative and Design, and Tourism will be added as V-level subjects.
