The Chairman of the State Planning Council and Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing has instructed officials to immediately arrange shelters for those who have difficulty living due to the damage caused by the earthquake, as was the case during the COVID-19 outbreak.
The extremely strong earthquake and subsequent aftershocks that occurred on March 28 caused earthquakes in Sagaing Region, Mandalay Region, Magway Region, Northeastern Shan State, Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, and Bago Region, damaging roads, bridges, and buildings, and causing some deaths and injuries. Search and rescue operations are being carried out in the relevant areas.
In this regard, the Chairman of the State Planning Council and Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by members, visited Mandalay Region, which was heavily damaged, this morning (March 29) and first inspected the damage caused by the earthquake by helicopter.
Then, at the Central Military Command, Mandalay Region Chief Minister U Myo Aung, Sagaing Region Chief Minister U Myat Kyaw, Central Military Command Commander and officials presented the damage and loss caused by the earthquake in Mandalay Region and the status of search and rescue operations. The Chairman of the State Planning Council, the Prime Minister, called for the search and rescue operations to be carried out as soon as possible, the injured to be transported to nearby hospitals and clinics as soon as possible and the necessary medical care to be provided by military and civilian medical professionals, and the deceased to be properly buried.
In addition, officials should arrange for those who have difficulty living due to the damage to live in their respective areas as soon as possible, just as they did during the COVID-19 outbreak, and the dangerous buildings that collapsed due to the earthquake should be cleared as soon as possible. Taking this incident as a lesson, the quality inspection of old buildings should be carried out, The Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Planning and Administration Council, issued instructions to systematically inspect and construct new buildings in accordance with the established durability standards. He also directed that arrangements should be made as soon as possible to ensure that water, electricity, and living spaces are available in earthquake-affected areas, and that food and drink facilities be provided. He also directed that airports and runways be improved as soon as possible to effectively carry out relief and rescue operations in the relevant regions, and other necessary measures.
