A railway mine was detonated on the Yangon-Mandalay railway line between Nyaung Pagoda and Kwee Pe Stations this morning (March 27) and a security patrol RGC train was fired upon with small arms.
On the Yangon-Mandalay railway line, the RGC-125, which was conducting security checks on the Phyu-Taungu section, departed from Nyaung Pagoda Station at 7:36 a.m. on March 27 and reached about mile 144/10-11 between Nyaung Pagoda and Kwee Pe Stations. At 7:50 a.m., a small arms fire was launched from the Yangon-Mandalay Highway on the west side of the track. A rear window of the RGC 125 locomotive was broken and hit the rear rail frame. The driver and security forces were not injured in the fire.
Similarly, at 9:15 a.m. on March 27, a small arms fire was launched from the Yangon-Mandalay railway line in Oktwin Township, Bago Region, The Asan Railway Line was damaged by a mine explosion placed by insurgents on the Asan Railway Line at Milepost No. 144/10-11 between Nyaungpetta Station and Kyaungpetta Station, and trains were allowed to pass through the Asan Railway Line using the Eka Road system at 9:18 a.m.
After that, local officials and local security forces inspected the area where the mine explosion occurred. The mine caused about (10) feet of the western track on Asan Railway Line to buckle and some of the paving stones and concrete slabs were damaged.
Myanmar Railways staff worked to reopen the section, and the replacement of the Asan Railway Line rails and road repairs were completed by 6:00 p.m. on March 27, and the Asan Railway Line has been reopened and trains are running normally.
2021, Since February, there have been 80 incidents of mine explosions on railway tracks and train station areas, 175 incidents of mine explosions on railway bridges/tracks, and 16 incidents of burning down station buildings and staff houses across the entire Myanmar Railways network.
