Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrik said on March 9 that US President Donald Trump’s plan to evacuate Palestinians from the Gaza Strip is being drawn up.

“The plan is being drawn up in cooperation with the US government. It has the potential to create a historic change for both the Middle East and for Israel,” Smotrik told the Israeli parliament.

According to Mr. Smotrik, a planning committee is being set up to oversee the evacuation of Palestinians. Smotrik has repeatedly supported the war on Hamas and has expressed support for Israel’s permanent presence in the Gaza Strip.

However, Trump’s plan still requires finding countries that will accept the Palestinians who will be evacuated, Smotrik said. The plan is supported by Israel, but not by the Palestinians and Arab states.

Minister Smotrik calculated that the relocation would take time, saying that if 10,000 people were relocated per day, it would take six months, seven days a week, and if 5,000 people were relocated per day, it would take a year, making it an extremely long process.
