Manchester United will have to pay back £10m to kit sponsor Adidas for failing to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Manchester United have a £90m-a-year sponsorship deal with Adidas, which runs until 2035.

The deal includes a clause that states that the value of the deal will be reduced if they do not qualify for the Champions League, meaning Manchester United will now have to pay back £10m to Adidas after failing to qualify for the Champions League for the second season in a row.

Manchester United will not only miss out on the Champions League next season, but will also miss out on other European competitions for the first time since the 2014-15 season.

Manchester United have already suffered a huge loss due to their failure to qualify for Europe, and are bottom of the Premier League table, which means they will be earning more than £30m less than the team in fifth place.

With a Premier League position worth around £3m, it is believed that Manchester United will earn more than £30m less than the team in fifth place.
