The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) has arrested a drug trafficking gang in Yangon, allegedly managed by a couple who were in charge of the AA business and were planning to transport it to Malaysia, with more than 3 tons of methamphetamine (methamphetamine), 200 kilograms of ketamine and a drug trafficking ring.

The DEA raided a warehouse at No. (546/547), Sinphyu Shin Road, Ward (144), Dagon Myothit (South) Township, Yangon Region, at around 7:30 p.m. on March 6, based on a tip-off.

During the search, Than Lwin, Waiyar Aung (b) Thar Gyi, Thant Kaungset (b) Paunghan, Yerin Naing, and Hla Than Oo (b) Rakut were arrested for possession of 1.2 tons of methamphetamine, one TOYOTA HILUX vehicle, They were seized along with (1) TOYOTA LAND CRUISER and (1) MERCEDES BENZ.

Further investigation revealed that the seized ice (methamphetamine) was transported and sold by Than Lwin under the plan of Tin Maung Win, a resident of Panghsang Township, “Wa” Self-Administered Region. Hein Sithu (b) Zaw Zaw Aung (b) Aung Ko Ko (b) Tin Lin Pyae, who resold the ice (methamphetamine) from Than Lwin in Yangon, were arrested on Shwe Khin Thar Road, Thaketa Township, and Tin Hla (b) Sathith, who connected them to resell the psychotropic drugs, was arrested in Ward (104), Ward (L), Dagon Myothit (Southern) Township.

Then, according to the news chain, on March 6 at about 9:30 p.m., in Ward (L) of North Okkalapa Township, A search of a HYUNDAI BOX vehicle driven by Kyaw Kyaw Thein (b) and Kyaw Kyaw (b) on Thudhamma Road revealed that 1.265 tons of ice (methamphetamine) and 200 kilograms of ketamine were seized from the vehicle. Investigation revealed that the people who managed to transport the psychotropic drugs to Malaysian waters were Ye Win (b) Kyaw Soe Lin, an AA business officer, and his wife, the owner of the Shwe Kaung Tha boat, Ma Thita Myint. Min Min Soe, who received the drugs in Yangon and transported them to Malaysian waters on the Shwe Kaung Tha boat, was arrested in Loi Lin, Shan State (South). He exported the drugs to Malaysian waters on the Shwe Kaung Tha boat in February 2023. Myo Min Soe (b) Ko Myo, the person in charge of transporting the drugs to Malaysia, was arrested with a CELSIOR vehicle on Thudhamma Road, North Nyakkalapa Township, and was arrested in Dagon Myothit (Northern) Township, where he lives. Another ton of methamphetamine was seized from a house in Ward (49). Kyaw Wai Htun, Thein Htun (b) Thant Zin, Yan Shin Aung and Zaw Zaw Aung, who were involved in transporting psychotropic drugs to the Malaysian seas by Shwe Kaung Tha boat, were arrested along with the Shwe Kaung Tha boat in Ward (4) of Samadua Ward, Seik Gyi Khanaungto Township, resulting in the seizure of 3.465 tons of methamphetamine and 200 kilograms of ketamine worth a total of Ks96.625 billion.

AA Business Officer Ye Win (b) Kyaw Soe Lin and his wife Mathida Myint operate vehicle terminals in Tan Yang, Taunggyi, Mandalay and Yangon and operate 16 passenger vans of their own.

According to a statement from the Narcotics Control Police, those arrested have been charged under the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act, and further action is being taken under the Anti-Money Laundering Act to confiscate the financial benefits and assets obtained from drug trafficking as public funds.
