Myanmar is facing a daily insecurity situation with reports of a weakening of the rule of law in various areas.
In Yangon, the economic capital of Myanmar, incidents of pickpocketing, robbery, and knife attacks are common.
In recent days, incidents of robbery and assault in Yangon have become life-threatening and have resulted in a number of deaths.
Not only in the outskirts of Yangon but also in the city center, incidents of robbery and assault have made the daily lives of the city residents unsafe.
As a side effect of the weakening of the rule of law, the city residents have reached a state of fear due to incidents of murder, robbery, and threats to life and property.
The current situation in Yangon is such that you can be robbed on the street or while riding a bus.
You can also be brutally murdered while staying at home, or you can be robbed while working in a shop and even die.
These incidents are currently happening in Yangon, the commercial capital of Myanmar.
With the increasing number of robberies in Yangon, the safety of the city’s residents is questionable.
Recently, robberies in Yangon have become more frequent, not with weapons such as sticks and knives, but with guns.
Currently, in addition to homes and shops, there are also incidents of robberies with guns, which are fully secured, in Yangon.
Kyi Myin Daing Beach Road Shooting
A man was shot and killed on the corner of Beach Road and Barkaya Road in Kyi Myin Daing Township on the evening of January 6.
According to the CCTV footage installed on the beach road, a man standing by the beach road put a gun in a plastic bag and shot the man walking in the middle of the beach road from behind before fleeing.
A bank passbook with the name U Aung Shein in the deceased man’s bag was found, but where the man lived or worked was not known. It is not known what his relationship with the man who shot him was.
However, it is questionable whether it is now so easy to shoot a person crossing the street.
What kind of animosity, what kind of hatred existed between the two men? Shooting a person dead on a busy street with cars is a matter of concern for security.
Robbery of a gold shop in the city center
On January 8, a gold shop opened on the middle block of Street 30 in Pabedan Township was robbed.
The incident is as follows. On the morning of January 8, three men entered the Shwe Chit Sein Shwe Jewelry Shop, which was opened on the first floor of Street 30, threatened them with a gun and stole money and gold jewelry.
After the robbery, the owner and employees were locked in the bathroom.
What is strange about this incident is that the robbers are no longer choosing a place like before.
Street 30 is a place like the city center of Yangon.
It is densely populated and crowded with pedestrians.
However, the three men robbed a gold shop opened in such a place with a gun.
Therefore, the people of Yangon are facing a situation where they can be robbed anywhere if they want to do it.
Tamwe Township Robbery
On March 10, a robbery occurred in an apartment in Metta Nyunt Ward, Tamwe Township.
This time, the victim was a woman.
The incident is as follows. The woman was leaving her apartment to go pick up her daughter when a man put a plastic bag over her head and held a knife to her neck.
Then, she was asked to unlock the door and entered the house, and the man hit her on the head.
Before the woman could regain consciousness, they took her money, underwear, and phones from the house.
This incident also took place in Metta Nyunt Ward, a densely populated area of Tamwe.
Not safe anymore
These incidents show that everywhere in Yangon is not safe anymore.
These incidents are not new. They have been happening in Yangon for a long time.
The rule of law is weakening everywhere, and
