Some businessmen, including the owner of Eden Construction, U Chit Khaing, who is serving a prison sentence, have been released, according to sources close to them.

Businessman U Chit Khaing was arrested in April 2022 for allegedly engaging in corruption in the payment of taxes for the Tigyit coal plant.

“Yes. U Chit Khaing has been released,” a businessman confirmed.

U Chit Khaing was released from Mandalay’s Obo Prison at around 7am on April 12.

U Chit Khaing was arrested along with Union Ministers U Ohn Win, U Ohn Khaing, and Deputy Minister Dr. Tun Naing during the NLD government.

U Chit Khaing, the chairman of the Eden Group of Companies, is involved in a wide range of businesses, including oil and gas, banking, construction, and agricultural products.

Similarly, Zey Thiha, the son of U Khin Shwe, the owner of Zey Kabar Group of Companies, has also been released from Yangon’s Insein Prison.

In addition, some edible oil businessmen have also been released, according to the oil business community.

“The oil businessmen have also been released. We don’t know the details yet,” said an oil businessman.
