A man was shot dead near a PUMA petrol station on the Yangon-Mawlamyine road in Mopalin Village, Kyaikto Township, Mon State, according to local residents.
The man who was shot dead was identified as Ko Lin (B) Anyat, a resident of the lower part of Mayanchaung Village, Kyaikto Township. He was shot dead at around 5:30 p.m. on March 31 near a PUMA petrol station on the Yangon-Mawlamyine road near Mopalin Village, Kyaikto Township, according to a local resident.
He continued, “Ko Lin (B) Anyat was shot dead by two men on a motorcycle. Ko Lin, who was shot, died at the scene with one bullet wound to the head and one bullet wound to the back.”
It is not yet known which armed group shot and killed Ko Lin (B) Aung Than, he said.
Kyaikto Township is often the scene of armed attacks. On March 23, an armed group attacked three members of the Kyaikto Township Special Investigation Department (SID) near a rubber farm on the Yangon-Mawlamyine road between Khameik Village and Kyar Phyu Village in Kyaikto Township. Two of them, Deputy Investigator U Min Thu and Assistant Investigator U Myo Thant, died on the spot. Investigator U Thura Soe was injured by bullets and is receiving treatment at the Kyaikto Township General Hospital.
Similarly, on March 27, U Soe Min Oo, a member of the Kyaikto Township Solidarity Party Ward/Village Committee and a member of the Village Lighting Committee, were also shot and killed.
At least (11) people have been killed and at least (3) injured in attacks in Mon State this year, according to local news sources.
