The Russian military has completely retaken the Kars region of Russia, which was controlled by Ukrainian forces with the help of North Korean soldiers, Russian General Staff Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov said on April 26, acknowledging the involvement of North Korean soldiers in the ongoing war with Ukraine.

The North Korean soldiers who took part in the operation provided significant assistance to the Ukrainian forces in the defeat, and Gerasimov praised the bravery of the North Korean soldiers.

However, shortly after Gerasimov’s statement, the Ukrainian military denied Russia’s claim that the Ukrainian forces had been driven out of the Kars region.

The Ukrainian military said that the enemy leaders’ claims that they had defeated the Ukrainian soldiers in the Kars region were propaganda.

However, the situation on the ground in the Kars region is difficult for Ukrainian forces, and Ukrainian forces are still holding on to the occupied areas, Ukrainian Chief of Staff Oleksandr Sosnyk said.

The Ukrainian military also said that the Ukrainian military is continuing operations in some areas of Belgorod, another Russian border region.

South Korean and Western intelligence agencies have said that North Korea has sent more than 10,000 North Korean soldiers to reinforce Russia since Ukrainian forces invaded the Kars region last year.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on April 22 that Chinese nationals are working at a drone manufacturing plant in Russia and that Russia may be stealing drone technology from China.

Earlier this month, Zelensky said that Russia was recruiting Chinese citizens through social media, and that Chinese officials were aware of the matter.

Zelensky said that Ukraine was trying to find out whether the recruits were receiving instructions from Chinese sources.

China reiterated its support for peace efforts in the Ukraine conflict and said relevant organizations should refrain from making irresponsible comments.
