In Naungcho Township, which had been closed for almost a year, 16 more schools reopened on August 9, bringing the total number of schools to 42, with over 5,500 students currently enrolled.

In Naungcho Township, Shan State (North), basic education schools that had been closed for almost a year have reopened since July 25, and students are being taught literature and are continuing to enroll.

 

In this way, school-age children are being educated according to grade levels, 26 basic education schools in Naungcho Township have reopened, and 16 more schools were opened on August 9, bringing the total number of basic education schools in Naungcho Township to 42. Similarly, 1,141 students enrolled on August 9, bringing the total number of students enrolled to 5,551.

 

In addition, to facilitate the health care of the local ethnic people, the Naung Cho Township General Hospital was renovated and reopened on August 2, and the local ethnic people are now receiving necessary health care services.

In this regard, on August 9, 67 outpatients were treated at the General Hospital for malaria, influenza, and general diseases, 16 were tested for blood type, and 17 were tested for malaria. 100 mosquito nets were provided to OPD patients at the General Hospital. In addition, 34 inpatients are receiving medical treatment at the General Hospital, and medical teams are providing necessary health care services.

 

Three Thai soldiers were injured when a landmine exploded near the Thai-Cambodian border on August 9, AFP reported.

The landmine explosion occurred in Sisaket province at 10 a.m. local time on August 9, the Royal Thai Army said.

One soldier was seriously injured in the leg, another in the back and arm, and another soldier suffered a broken eardrum, the statement said.

After the landmine explosion, Thailand’s Foreign Ministry accused Cambodia of laying landmines.

Cambodia’s Landmine and Victim Assistance Authority denied that it had laid new landmines.

Thailand’s acting Prime Minister Phuntshom Wichayachai visited Sisaket’s neighboring province of Surin on August 9 and ordered the best possible treatment for soldiers injured in a landmine explosion.

The incident came after five days of exchange of fire over a disputed border area between Thailand and Cambodia.
