A suspect in the stabbing death of a woman at the Myanmar Plaza parking lot has been arrested and has confessed to the crime, saying he committed it because he had to pay off a debt for a construction project.
The suspect, identified as Myat Thura Kyaw, was arrested with his wife at the Myoma entrance gate of the old Yangon-Mandalay Road, Myit Nge-Hto Bo Road junction, at 12:30 p.m. on August 6.

According to his statement, he killed the deceased Daw San San Aye because he had debts to pay.
Efforts are underway to arrest a male accomplice (under investigation) in the incident.
At around 4:30 pm on August 5, the deceased Daw San San Aye from South Okkalapa Township was returning home with U Alat Khan Re from Tamwe Township when two men stabbed her with a knife while she was in a parked car at the Myanmar Plaza parking lot.
In the incident, Daw San San Aye died from stab wounds and U Alat Khan Re sustained stab wounds. A case was opened at Bahan Police Station under Sections 302/326/114 of the Penal Code (P) 199/2025.
Security forces conducted a detailed investigation into the case and found that the two suspects arrived at Myanmar Plaza in a light-colored Toyota Vitz at 1:57 pm. The Toyota Harrier in which the deceased Daw San San Aye was riding arrived at 2:02 pm, and Daw San San Aye and U Alat Khan Re got into Myanmar Plaza.
The vehicle the perpetrators were riding in then stopped near the vehicle Daw San San Aye was riding in. At 4:27 p.m., Daw San San Aye and U Alat Khan Ray were getting off the Myanmar Plaza and going to the parking lot when the two male suspects stabbed Daw San San Aye with a knife. When U Alat Khan Ray fought back, one of the suspects attacked and punched her.
After the crime, the two suspects ran to Kabar Aye Pagoda Road and rented a rental vehicle and fled. The driver of the rental vehicle was questioned and the two suspects were taken to the Se Ma Kone checkpoint on Pyay Road. The CCTV footage of the two suspects was shown to Daw San San Aye’s daughter and the officers questioned her. One of the suspects was Myat Thura Kyaw, who works in construction with her mother and owes her mother a loan.
Subsequently, the accused, Myat Thura Kyaw, was arrested along with his wife on the old Yangon-Mandalay road, and detailed investigations are underway to arrest the remaining accused.
