Argentina captain Messi has expressed his regret over missing the upcoming World Cup qualifiers due to injury.
Messi has recovered from a muscle injury and is available to play for Inter Miami, but the team has officially announced that he has withdrawn from the Argentina squad after suffering a minor muscle injury in the 2-1 win over Atlanta United on March 16. Messi also explained the reason for his withdrawal on his Instagram page.
“I am very disappointed to miss these important matches for the national team against Uruguay and Brazil. I really want to play. A minor injury requires me to rest a little. So I can’t go there. From here, we will celebrate like the other fans. Let’s go, Argentina,” Messi wrote on Instagram.
Argentina will play Uruguay and Brazil in the upcoming international break on March 21. They will face Brazil in a World Cup qualifier on March 25.
Argentina leads the South American zone with 25 points, five points ahead of second-placed Uruguay.
