Mandalay Region Police have arrested those who stole more than four hundred thousand kyats worth of gold and silver from a house they were moving to due to fears that the building would collapse due to the earthquake.
Daw Khin Phyu Myint and her sister, who live on the ground floor of an apartment building on 32B Street, between 70th and 71st Streets, Yan Myo Lon Ward, Chan Aye Tha San Township, were afraid of the earthquake and went to sleep on the ground floor of an apartment building across the street. They had stored their gold and silver in the attic of the apartment and lost it.
A case was filed with the No. (3) Area Police Station regarding the loss of more than 4,300 million kyats, which led to an investigation.
Regarding the incident, a worker from a construction site near the apartment where the disappearance occurred was found missing. Upon investigation, the suspect, identified as Lwin Ko U, was arrested in Letpan Village, Tatkon Township, along with those who had stolen the stolen items.
“The owner of the apartment, who was on the ground floor, removed the glass door and took the bag of rice he had ordered to the attic. This is to warn those who left their house due to the earthquake and are moving elsewhere. The theft was committed by a worker from a construction site nearby. The person who has a criminal record has committed the crime before,” said an official regarding the incident.
