The Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe attended the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Emergency Meeting and appealed to ASEAN countries to provide assistance for the earthquake disaster, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe from Myanmar attended the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Emergency Meeting held via video conference on March 30 regarding the extensive damage caused by the strong earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28.

The meeting was held to coordinate the necessary measures to provide humanitarian assistance, relief and rehabilitation in the earthquake-stricken areas following the severe earthquakes in Myanmar and Thailand.

At the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister expressed their gratitude to all those who have been working together to provide relief and relief from the effects of natural disasters in Myanmar. On March 28, when a powerful earthquake struck Myanmar, the State Executive Council declared a state of emergency under the Disaster Management Law and explained the relief and rehabilitation efforts for those affected by the earthquake.

In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Union Minister stated that since more than (17) minor earthquakes related to the high-intensity earthquake have also occurred, the immediate need for assistance is for the search and rescue of missing persons and temporary shelter for those who are currently missing, and that they will assess the safe use of buildings that have not collapsed, and request for cooperation in providing assistance.

ASEAN countries expressed their deep sympathy and sorrow for the people affected by the earthquakes in Myanmar and Thailand, and expressed their readiness to promote solidarity and coordinate humanitarian assistance, support, and relief and rehabilitation efforts in times of emergency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
