The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has issued a warning that the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal will not enter Myanmar as a cyclone, but it is necessary to be careful as the intensity of the storm may cause strong winds, heavy rain, and landslides.

The strong low pressure area in the northwestern Bay of Bengal (off the coast of Odisha, India) has reached the northwestern Bay of Bengal (West Bengal, India, Bangladesh coast) and has strengthened and has become a cyclonic storm. The cyclone is centered about 255 nautical miles west-northwest of Sittwe, about 60 nautical miles south-southeast of Sagar Island, India, about 70 nautical miles east-southeast of Digha, and about 125 nautical miles west-southwest of Khipupara, Bangladesh, the Meteorological Department said.

The cyclone is currently classified as yellow as it is not likely to move towards Myanmar. The cyclone is likely to move north-northwestwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm within the next 12 hours, and cross the coasts of India, West Bengal and Bangladesh between Sagaing Island and Khipupara, the weather service said.

Due to the intensity of the cyclone, scattered rain and thundershowers are expected to occur in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon Region, Mandalay Region, Bago Region, Magway Region, Sagaing Region, Ayeyarwady Region, Tanintharyi Region, Kachin State, Kayah State, Karen State, Chin State, Mon State, Rakhine State and Shan State during June 2.

In addition, in the delta region, Along the Rakhine coast and offshore, frequent heavy rains and very high waves will occur. During heavy rains, the sea/land wind may blow at 40 to 45 miles per hour. The wave height may be about 14 to 16 feet in the estuary, along the Rakhine coast and offshore. In the Gulf of Mottama, along the Mon-Taninatharyi coast and offshore, occasional heavy rains and high waves will occur. During heavy rains, the sea/land wind may blow at 35 to 40 miles per hour.
