The ASEAN All-Stars won the Maybank Challenge Cup between English club Manchester United and the ASEAN All-Stars on May 28 at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with Myanmar striker Maung Maung Lwin scoring the only goal.
Maung Maung Lwin did not start the match, but came on as a substitute in the second half and scored the winning goal in the 71st minute. This made Maung Maung Lwin the first Myanmar player to score against English club Manchester United. Maung Maung Lwin came on as a substitute and played on the right wing in the match, scoring the winning goal in a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Maung Maung Lwin’s winning goal put Manchester United, who had been without a trophy last season and had suffered a record-breaking defeat, under pressure.
The ASEAN Football Federation (MFF) has formed a team of 12 member nations to play in the friendly match, with South Korea’s Kim Samsit, the head coach of the Vietnam national team, as the head coach. Manchester United started with Onana (goal), Maguire, Hoyland, Casemiro, Dalot, and Kobe Mina, and made changes in the 30th minute. Manchester United brought on Bruno Fernandes, Gnacho, and Ahmed in the second half. Manchester United pressed from the start, but were unable to break through the ASEAN All-Stars’ defense and had few clear-cut chances in the first half. The ASEAN All-Stars had some threats in the first half, but failed to score, leaving the first half goalless. In the second half, Manchester United were able to press more, but ASEAN All-Stars had more chances to score, scoring once in two (2) chances. Maung Maung Lwin converted the first chance of the second half, but Manchester United defender Evans saved a chance that came towards the end of the match.
