The Trump administration has ordered U.S. embassies around the world to immediately halt all visa interviews for international students.
The State Department issued an order on May 27 ordering all new student or exchange visitor (F, M, and J) visa applications to be suspended until further notice.
The order was first reported by Politico and now confirmed by the Guardian.
The order could delay visa processing and hurt universities that rely on international students for revenue.
The order said the State Department is reviewing its current processes for selecting student and exchange visitor visa applicants.
