369 Chinese nationals and 23 South African nationals involved in online fraud and criminal activities were deported again via the Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge on March 26.
In order to facilitate the smooth return of these foreign nationals to their respective countries, the State Director and Director of the Ministry of Immigration and Population U Kyaw Myint and officials instructed the relevant departments to ensure that the necessary statistics and information were complete and accurate. At the deportation ceremony, the State Director and Director of the Ministry of Immigration and Population U Kyaw Myint and officials, Ambassador Mr. Darkey Africa and officials from the South African Embassy in Thailand, Mr. Liu Ning Ning, Deputy Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Public Security of the People’s Republic of China, and officials from Thailand, Officials from the Turkmen Immigration Department attended and Myanmar officials systematically handed over the deportation documents to the relevant country officials.
A total of 8,670 foreign nationals who entered Myanmar illegally from January 30 to March 26, 2025 were identified and detained, of which 5,798 were systematically transferred to relevant countries through Thailand in accordance with legal procedures, and the remaining 2,872 foreign nationals are ready to be transferred to relevant countries and are being well-maintained.
The National Security Council (NSC) press release stated that the government is thoroughly investigating and identifying all those involved in online scams and online gambling, and is continuously actively investigating and taking action with neighboring countries, including international organizations, especially the trilateral cooperation between Myanmar, China, and Thailand.
