Three people were killed and at least 15 others were injured on May 24 when Russian drones and missiles hit Kiev, as the two countries continued their largest prisoner swap since Russia launched its war in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia fired 14 cruise missiles and carried out 250 drone strikes, adding that it had shot down six Ukrainian missiles and 245 drones.
“Kiev is the main target of the enemy’s attacks,” the Ukrainian Air Force said.
“With each such attack, the world becomes more convinced that the cause of the protracted war is the Russian government,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on social media X.
“Only further sanctions on key sectors of the Russian economy will force the Russian government to cease fire,” he said.
Fires and debris were reported in many parts of the capital, Kiev, according to Kiev officials.
Three people were killed and 15 injured in Kiev alone, while five civilians were killed in Russian air strikes in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions, officials said.
