Premier League club officials are reportedly considering whether to close the summer transfer window before the start of the new season, with a vote likely.

The Premier League usually starts in mid-August and the summer transfer window closes at the end of August.

As a result, clubs are keen to close the transfer window before the start of the new season as it would affect their preparations.

The Premier League previously closed the summer transfer window before the start of the new season in 2018 and 2019, but other leagues did not close it, so it was later closed in line with other leagues.

Now, plans are being made to close the window before the start of the new season, and a vote is expected at a club meeting next Thursday.

The 2025-26 Premier League season will start on August 16, and the 2025 summer transfer window is being discussed as closing on August 14, two days before the start of the new season.

If such changes are made in the Premier League, they will be decided by a vote of the clubs and will be approved if they receive the support of (14) clubs.
