Thai authorities have arrested 41 undocumented Myanmar nationals from a sealed vehicle in Than Phaphon Township, Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand, according to reports from the Thai side.
At around 3:40 a.m. on June 23, Thai authorities arrested 41 undocumented Myanmar nationals and a Thai driver from a sealed vehicle in Than Phaphon Township.
The undocumented Myanmar nationals arrested in the sealed vehicle were 33 men and eight women from Yangon, Mawlamyine, Bago and Kachin State. They had crossed the Thai-Myanmar border from the Three Pagoda Town on the Myanmar side of the border on foot.
Among those arrested, eight undocumented Myanmar nationals were found to have paid 15,000 baht each to travel to Bangkok, while the remaining 33 were paid 55,000 baht each to travel to Malaysia, according to Thai news reports. The Thai driver also confessed to illegally transporting the undocumented Myanmar nationals in an unmarked vehicle, Thai media reported.
Thai authorities are currently investigating the Thai driver under charges of aiding and abetting illegal aliens and illegally crossing the border with undocumented Myanmar nationals.
Thailand is currently ramping up its crackdown on human trafficking through the “SEAL STOP SAVE” project, and border areas are urging people not to travel or seek work through illegal routes on the Thai-Myanmar border.
