Navy ships intercepted a fishing boat carrying 1.5 tons of methamphetamine off the coast of Luzon before dawn on June 20, Navy Rear Admiral Edward D. Sargon said.

Four people, including a foreign national, were arrested along with the drugs, he said, in a joint operation by the Philippine Navy and the Drug Enforcement Agency.

“We do not know the exact source of the drugs. We intercepted them after receiving a tip-off about a suspicious vessel,” Sargon said.

Navy spokesman John Percy Alcoz said the seizure was one of the largest drug seizures in the history of the Philippine Navy.

Methamphetamine, popularly known as shabu in the Philippines, is the most widely used drug in the Philippines.

In recent weeks, the Philippine presidency announced that nearly 1.3 tons of methamphetamine worth $152 million had been seized in the Philippines.

A social assistance group has reported that two thieves stabbed the homeowners and their spouses in an apartment building in the Thukha Dagon Estate in Dagon Myothit (South) of Yangon. The man died and the woman was seriously injured, according to the social assistance group.

The incident occurred at around 3 am today (June 21). The two thieves entered the house through the back door to steal items, when they met the homeowners and stabbed them, according to an official from the social assistance group.

“We were contacted to help because there was a patient. When we went to help, we learned that two thieves came to steal at around 3 am today, June 21. They came through the back door thinking that no one was home. The homeowners and their spouses saw them coming. As far as we know, they tried to catch the two thieves and stabbed them,” he said.

The homeowners suffered 23 stab wounds as a result of the attack, and died at the scene. The female host also suffered seven stab wounds and was taken to Sanpya General Hospital, the official added.

“The male host died on the spot after suffering 23 stab wounds. The female host was also taken to Sanpya General Hospital with seven stab wounds. Her injuries are serious but not life-threatening,” he said.

Two thieves have also been arrested in connection with the incident.
