The third amendment to the Election Commission Law has been enacted, which includes the provision that a civil servant may be appointed as the chairperson in the formation of the various levels of the election commission.

Section 14 of the third amendment to the Union Election Commission Law, enacted on June 19, reads as follows: “The Commission shall be formed by at least three persons, either public servants or persons who are trusted and respected by the public, in the formation of the various levels of the election commissions under Section 10, Subsection (c). Among these persons, a suitable person shall be assigned as the chairperson. The relevant election officer shall be assigned as the secretary.”

According to the third amendment to the Union Election Commission Law, civil servants may be appointed as the chairpersons of the various levels of the election commissions.

Previously, Section 14 of the Union Election Commission Law stipulated that “The Commission shall be formed by at least three persons who are trusted and respected by the public in the formation of the sub-committees under Section 10, Sub-section (c). One of these members shall be assigned as the chairman. The relevant election officer shall be assigned as the secretary. If necessary, civil servants may be included as members.”

In Chapter (4), Section 10, Duties and Powers of the Union Election Commission Law, Sub-section (c) stipulates “Formation, cause to be formed, supervision and cause to be supervised of the sub-committees.”
