Pakistan said on June 20 that it would nominate US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Pakistan said it would support Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his efforts to help resolve the recent conflict between India and Pakistan.

Some analysts have suggested that Pakistan may have been trying to persuade him not to join Israel in its attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Pakistan has condemned Israel’s attacks on Iran, saying its actions violate international law and threaten regional security.

Trump made a surprise announcement in May that ended a four-day ceasefire between India and Pakistan.

Since then, Trump has repeatedly said that he averted a nuclear war and saved millions of lives.

Pakistan has accepted US diplomatic mediation for a ceasefire with India, but India has said the ceasefire was a mutual agreement between the two militaries.

“President Trump has shown great strategic vision and outstanding leadership through diplomatic engagements between India and Pakistan. Such mediation has demonstrated his role as a true peacemaker,” Pakistan said in a statement.

Governing governments can nominate individuals they support for the Nobel Peace Prize. The United States did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Trump has repeatedly said he is willing to mediate the disputed Kashmir region between India and Pakistan.

Trump has ended the US’s South Asia policy, which favored India to counter China, raising questions about the close relationship between Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On June 20, Trump posted on social media a list of conflicts he had resolved during his first term, including the India-Pakistan conflict and the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and several Muslim countries.

Trump also said he would not win the Nobel Peace Prize for his work.
