Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has confirmed he will leave the club after the Club World Cup.
Modric, 39, had wanted to play for the rest of his career at Real Madrid, but the club are keen to strengthen their squad with a younger squad starting next season, which is why he has decided to leave.
Modric joined Real Madrid from Tottenham in the summer of 2012 and has won four La Liga titles and six Champions League titles in 13 years at the club.
Real Madrid have offered the ageing midfielder a one-year extension to his contract, but he has decided to leave after not wanting to extend it for next season.
”The moment has come that I never wanted to see come. But that’s the nature of football. “And in life, everything has a beginning and an end. I’m proud to have been a part of one of the most successful periods of one of the best teams in the world,” Modric said.
