US President Donald Trump said on March 7 that Britain does not need his help to win the war in Iran, the latest showdown between the two military allies.

Britain is seriously considering sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East, but Trump said the US does not need to rely on Britain to win the war with Iran.

Trump has repeatedly criticized British Prime Minister Keith Stark, and this week he said Stark had damaged the historically close relationship between the two countries after the British government blocked the US from using British military bases to attack Iran.

Trump wrote on his Truth Social media account that he would remember Britain’s lack of support during the conflict with Iran.

“Britain, once our greatest ally, perhaps the greatest of them all, is now seriously considering sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East,” Trump wrote.

“That’s no problem, Prime Minister Stark. We don’t need those ships now. But we will keep them in mind. We don’t want the people who come after we win the war,” Trump wrote.

Trump’s social media posts came after Britain’s Ministry of Defense announced on March 7 that it was preparing to send its aircraft carrier, the Prince of Wales, if needed.

But a British official said no decision had been made on whether to actually send the carrier to the Middle East. Prime Minister Stark defended his decision to deny U.S. forces access to British bases at the start of the Iran war.

He said that military action in any form must be in accordance with the law and must be systematically planned so that he can be satisfied.
