Two men died of suffocation after their phones fell into a well in Apaung Village, Hlaingbwe Township, Kayin State, according to local residents.

A local resident said that the bodies of two men were found dead in a well located behind a gas station in Apaung Village, Paikyong Township, at around 11 am on May 20, and that they had informed the relevant social and rescue organizations.

He continued, “One man went down to save his phone after it fell into the well. When it didn’t come back up, another man went down again. Both of them died of suffocation in the well.”

The well is about 5 feet wide and 25 feet deep, and there is only a little water in the well. The two men who died of suffocation in the well are locals, he said.

The bodies of the two men who died in the well due to lack of oxygen were recovered by the Rescue Team from the local fire station in Paing Kyaw Township, the Hlaing Bwe Local Social Relief Organization, and the Myanmar Social Relief Organization (Karen State).
