US President Donald Trump has expressed his condolences and wished Joe Biden a speedy recovery after learning that he has prostate cancer, but questions have been raised about whether Joe Biden’s team knew about his condition early and kept it a secret from the public.
On May 18, President Trump wrote on Truth Social that he was “saddened” to hear about Joe Biden’s current health condition and wished him a speedy recovery.
However, on the afternoon of May 19, Trump said at the White House, “I’m surprised the public didn’t know for so long. It took a long time to get to stage nine. It took years to get to this stage. What happened? The public should know,” he said.
Joe Biden’s office announced on May 18 that stage nine prostate cancer has spread to his bones. Cancer Research UK says stage nine is a stage where cancer cells have spread rapidly.
“After experiencing increasing urinary symptoms last week, Joe Biden was diagnosed with prostate cancer on May 16,” the former president’s office said in a statement. Biden, who is 82, is currently in intensive care and his family is discussing his treatment options.
Biden, the oldest president in U.S. history, is expected to have a checkup at Walter Reed Hospital in February 2024, and his physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, said there was no cause for concern. Biden has been relatively quiet since leaving the White House. However, Biden and his wife appeared on ABC’s The View in early May.
Joe Biden has had a family member die from cancer. His son, Boy Biden, died of brain cancer in 2015. He was 46 when he died.
