The Mandalay High-Level Market, which was damaged by the earthquake, will be demolished, and the market will reopen from April 24, as the main building of the market is strong, the Market Management Committee announced.
The powerful earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale that struck on March 28, 2025, caused some damage to the four-story building on the north side of the Mandalay Market, and the southern part of the four-story building on the south side collapsed.
On April 3, a survey was conducted to assess the strength and safety of each of the earthquake-affected markets in the Market Area. The Indian Army’s Disaster Management and Demolition Team conducted a thorough inspection on April 7. According to the findings, the South/North Towers will be demolished as red, and the main structure of the high-end market was found to be in good condition with no damage to the main structure.
Currently, the shopkeepers will be allowed to clean and set up their shops from April 21 to April 23 from 8:30 am to 4 pm. The market management team has announced that the high-end market will be opened on April 24 as usual after the internal inspection and cleaning of the entrance and exit roads.
