The Bangkok Post reported that more than 100,000 people are still operating in online fraud centers along the Thai-Myanmar border, the police chief said.

The report said that the international community has been fighting online fraud gangs on the border for weeks.

About 5,000 people have been rescued, some of whom were forced to work, while others came willingly, said Pol Gen Thatchai Pitaneelaboot of the Royal Thai Police.

Pol Gen Thatchai Pitaneelaboot is also leading the fight against online fraud along the Thai-Myanmar border.

The crackdown on online fraud gangs so far is only part of a larger operation, Pol Gen Thatchai added.

“There could be 50,000 or 100,000 people still left,” the police chief said, citing information provided by Chinese authorities.

Since February this year, Thai authorities have been cutting off fuel and electricity to the Thai-Myanmar border town of Myawaddy, and have been cracking down on online fraud.
