The Kabaw Valley is Myanmar’s territory and some Indian politicians should not damage bilateral relations for their own political gain, said Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun, spokesman for the National Assembly.
Speaking about the Manipur region on the India-Myanmar border, the Kabaw Valley issue, and the statements made by Mizoram MPs, Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun made the following comments.
“The Kabaw Valley region that we are talking about is also included in the previous measurement and we have recognized it. There is also a Memorandum of Understanding on Border Cooperation between Myanmar and India signed on May 8, 2014 as the border demarcation between Myanmar and India. Regarding the Kabaw Valley region, in the past and in 2013, the BJP, an opposition party in India, campaigned to take back the Kabaw Valley region, which includes Tamu, Kalay, and Minkin townships. Our locals protested against these things in both Kalay and Minkin townships. Therefore, I want to say that Myanmar will always stand as a good neighbor and friend to India. I want to say that some politicians in India should not damage bilateral relations based on their political interests. I want to say that Myanmar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity should be respected. What should Myanmar be informed about regarding these issues? “I would like to say that we will continue to do what we have to say,” said Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun.
In addition, the news that Mizoram MP Kevan Lalvina visited the northwestern parts of Myanmar bordering India was reported on THE HINDU news website, and Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun said that he crossed the border from Mizoram into Myanmar.
General Zaw Min Tun said, “The Hindu news website also reported that the Mizoram Governor and the Border Guard Force were informed about the trip. Then, it was said that he met with CNF, CNA, Chin PDF groups. In addition, regarding the Indo-Myanmar border area, Tamu, Kabaw Valley, a member of the Manipur parliament said in the Indian upper house session that this area belongs to India based on past history. “In addition, on the issue of foreigners entering Myanmar through Mizoram, Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Dhaula Amar spoke in the Mizoram Parliament on the 10th of this month,” he said.
