The three northern groups, the MNDAA, TNLA, and AA, issued a statement on August 6 calling on the international community, especially China, to stop the military’s airstrikes in areas they control.
The three northern groups strongly condemned the blatant war crimes committed by the military by bombing civilians in non-combat zones with fighter jets, and said that the three groups, which are not involved in any fighting, are continuously targeting civilians in the townships of Lauk Kai, Thein Ni, Kut Kai, Nam San, and Mrauk U, where the local population lives and walks, including markets, schools, hospitals, religious buildings, bridges, towns, and villages. It is also stated that we call on the neighboring People’s Republic of China and all international families to prevent and stop such attacks.
In addition, the Tatmadaw announced that on August 5, the airstrike in Kutkai, which is controlled by the TNLA, hit the Myoma market and some houses, burned down shops in the Myoma market, and that some locals were killed.
The airstrike was not aimed at civilians, but at the TNLA command center in the area, according to a Telegram channel close to the Tatmadaw.
Following the announcement by the three northern groups, it is reported that China’s Special Representative for Asia Ding Xijun will visit Myanmar today (August 8).
The situation in northern Myanmar is being closely monitored and relevant organizations are negotiating and ceasing fighting to ensure border security, Chinese projects, and residents of the border areas are not affected. China calls for peaceful resolution of disputes, de-escalation of tensions, and continued peace talks, and for the ceasefire and peace talks to continue to maintain momentum, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ma Ming said on July 25.
