Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged President Donald Trump to visit Ukraine on April 13 to better understand the enormous damage caused by Russia’s invasion.

“Before making any decisions, before making any kind of compromise, come and see the dead people, civilians, soldiers, children, or the destroyed hospitals and churches,” Zelenskyy said in an interview with CBS’s 60 Minutes on April 13.

He said Trump would come to Ukraine to understand what Russian leader Vladimir Putin has done.

Zelensky invited the US president to visit Ukraine, as the US and Russia hold direct talks, despite Russia’s continued aggression, as Trump pushes for a swift end to the three-year-old war.

The US is also in talks with Ukrainian officials to broker a potential ceasefire.

Zelensky met with Trump at the White House in February but the meeting did not go well. At the time, US Vice President Jay Vance accused Ukraine of hosting foreign leaders on a propaganda tour to garner support.

Zelensky has repeatedly denied such accusations, saying that if Trump were to choose to visit Ukraine, they would not prepare anything and that the trip would not be a trip to the cinema.
