Liverpool are close to signing Bayer Leverkusen defender Fringe.

Liverpool have been linked with a long-term move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Fringe as a replacement for England international Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has announced his departure at the end of the season.

Talks between Liverpool and Fringe are now at an advanced stage and a deal could be in the offing next summer, according to British media.

The 24-year-old Dutch defender has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen until 2028 and has a release clause of €35m (£29m).

Liverpool are prepared to pay Fringe’s release clause and Bayer Leverkusen are unlikely to block the player.

Fringe has made 48 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen this season and is keen to move to Liverpool.
