Vietnam and Russia have agreed to speed up the construction of nuclear power plants in Vietnam, a joint statement said on May 11.
The plants will be built with modern technologies and comply with nuclear and radiological safety regulations, the joint statement said after visiting Moscow, where Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is based.

The Vietnamese government expects the total electricity generation capacity of its first nuclear power plants to reach 6.4 gigawatts between 2030 and 2035.
