Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that the 2026 World Cup will be his last international tournament.
Ronaldo is currently in Portugal for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, but was asked by CNN while speaking online at the World Tourism Conference in Saudi Arabia about when he would retire.
Asked if the 2026 World Cup could be his last, Ronaldo said: “Absolutely. Because I’m going to be 41.”
He also said he would retire in a year or two.

“I feel great at the moment. I’m scoring goals. I feel fast and I’m sharp. It’s a happy moment. But I’ll be retiring soon. Because I’ve given everything to football. I’ve done everything for at least 25 years. “Soon means a year or two,” Ronaldo said.
Ronaldo has played in five World Cups, so the 2026 World Cup will be his sixth.
Portugal are yet to qualify, but with two games to go, they are five points clear of second-placed Ireland and Armenia, so they need just two points from their two games against them to qualify.
