The Indian Ministry of External Affairs held a special press conference on May 9 on the Operation SINDOOR against Pakistan.
The press conference was attended by Indian Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Shri Randhir Jaiswal, Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Air Chief Marshal Vyomika Singh, who briefed them on the latest developments in the operation.
On the intervening nights of May 8 and 9, the Pakistani army violated Indian airspace along the western border and carried out airstrikes with the intention of targeting military infrastructure, Singh said.
He said that around 300-400 drones were also used in 36 infiltration attempts along the International Border and the Line of Control from Leh to Sir Creek, which the Indian Army has destroyed using kinetic and non-kinetic means.
The likely purpose of such a large-scale air incursion was to test India’s air defence systems and gather intelligence, Singh said.
Scientific examination of the drone wreckage is underway and initial findings suggest that the drones are from a Turkish ASISGUARD SONGAR drone, he said.
In response to Pakistan’s attack, armed drones were sent to four air defence sites in Pakistan, and a drone could hardly have destroyed the radar of the air defence system, Singh said.
Pakistan has targeted Tangdhar, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, Rajouri, He said that the Indian Army had resorted to heavy artillery and armed drones along the Line of Control in Akhnoor and Udhampur, resulting in some casualties and injuries to its troops, and that the Pakistani Army had also suffered heavy losses in the Indian retaliatory fire.
Indian Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri also briefed him on the cowardly actions of the Pakistani Army by Colonel Qureshi and Air Chief Marshal Singh.
On the night of May 9, Pakistan had targeted Indian cities and civilian infrastructure in addition to military targets, and the Indian Army had responded proportionately, adequately and responsibly, Shri Vikram Misri said.
Shri Vikram Misri concluded that India’s strong unity is a challenge for Pakistan.
