The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that rubber exports accounted for more than $94 million in the five-month period from April 1 to September 1, 2023.
From April 1 to September 1, 2023, 76,594.86 tons of raw rubber were exported, earning $94.48 million.
Of the more than $1,349 million in agricultural exports in the five-month period, pulses, rice and broken rice were the highest earners, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation.
From October to the end of September in the 2020-2021 fiscal year, raw rubber exports earned more than $449 million, nearly $185 million more than the previous fiscal year, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
From October 1, 2020 to the end of September 2021, raw rubber exports earned $449.102 million. In the 2019-2020 fiscal year, the export of raw rubber was $264.442 million. Comparing the two periods, the export of raw rubber to foreign countries in the 2020-2021 fiscal year was $184.660 million more than in the previous fiscal year.
Among the southern regions of Myanmar, Mon State and Karen State are the regions where rubber is grown the most. The remaining regions, such as Yangon Region, Bago Region, and Tanintharyi Region, are also growing rubber, according to the Myanmar Rubber Growers Association.
The country produces around 200,000 tons of rubber per year, of which more than 90 percent is exported, while only about eight percent is used domestically.
Myanmar’s rubber is mainly exported to China, but it is also exported to countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and India.
In order to improve the quality of Myanmar’s natural rubber products, relevant departments, news organizations, farmers, traders, All stakeholders along the supply chain, including machine owners, must work together to implement the project in a sector-by-sector manner.
