The director general of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) announced his resignation on November 9th following a controversy over the editing of a report by US President Donald Trump.

Tim (M) Davies and the BBC’s head of news, Deborah Ratnes, both resigned after allegations emerged that they had acted in a misleading way in editing a report by Trump on their flagship programme Panorama.

“Like all public bodies, the BBC is not perfect. We must always be open. We must always be transparent. We must always be accountable,” Davies said in a statement posted on the BBC website.

“I understand that the recent controversy surrounding the BBC is a result of my decisions, although not the only reason. I am ultimately responsible,” he said.

A documentary titled “A Second Chance for Trump” was released last year. The Telegraph reported recently that the documentary, which featured a two-part version of Trump’s speech, appeared to deliberately incite protesters to storm the U.S. Capitol.
