The White House announced on June 4 that President Donald Trump has signed an executive order banning travel to the United States for citizens of 12 countries, including Myanmar.
The order fully and partially bars entry to citizens of Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.
Citizens of seven other countries, Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela, will be partially barred from entering the United States. Some temporary work visas from those countries will be allowed.
The order will take effect at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time on June 9.
Trump said the measure was taken in response to the attack on a Jewish protest in Colorado, where a gas canister was used as an incendiary weapon.
The man who attacked the Colorado protest was an illegal immigrant, US authorities said.
“The recent terrorist attack in Boulder, Colorado, highlights the extreme dangers of foreign nationals entering our country without due process,” Trump said in a video message released by the White House, which was posted on X.
“We don’t want them,” Trump said.
The ban comes after the US banned Canada, Trump’s order states that it will not affect athletes competing in the 2026 World Cup, which is co-hosted with Mexico, nor will it affect athletes competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
