In Yangon, at around 2:30 p.m. on April 9, there was heavy rain accompanied by strong winds.
“It rained heavily this afternoon. The rain was also heavy and unseasonal. Strong winds were forecast. In Thaketa, where we live, there was both heavy rain and strong winds. Our doors were closed with coconut shells,” said a resident of Thaketa Township.
The heavy rain fell in many townships, including Kyauktada, Tamwe, and Dawbon.
“We also had heavy rain and wind in Tamwe Township. Our roofs were blown off,” said a resident of Tamwe Township.
The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology also said that the Low Pressure Area (LPA) forming in the southern Bay of Bengal is still present. The low pressure area is expected to move northwestward and reach the west-central Bay of Bengal on April 10.
In addition, due to the interaction of warm air from the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal with cold air moving from the high pressure area over mainland China, the speed of the cyclones moving from the east, and the strong development of thermal clouds, scattered to scattered rain and thundershowers are possible in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon Region, Mandalay Region, Bago Region, Magway Region, Ayeyarwady Region, Kayah State, Kayin State, Mon State, Rakhine State and Shan State from April 7 to 11, and scattered rain and thundershowers are possible in Sagaing Region, Tanintharyi Region, Kachin State and Chin State.
Similarly, from April 12 to 15, Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon Region, Mandalay Region, Bago Region, Magway Region, Sagaing Region, Ayeyarwady Region, Tanintharyi Region, Kachin State, Kayah State, Kayin State, Chin State, Mon State, In Rakhine and Shan states, scattered thunderstorms are expected, with isolated heavy rain in some areas.
As a result, people are likely to experience unseasonal rain accompanied by strong winds, thunder, lightning, hail, and landslides.
