The UEC said that the voting system for the upcoming elections for the Pyithu Hluttaw, the National Hluttaw, and the Region and State Hluttaws will be both the First Past the Post (FPTP) and Proportional Representation (PR) systems, and that details will be available once the relevant Hluttaw election laws and regulations are enacted.

In line with the new electoral system, constituencies will be defined in each region and state, and political parties will be able to compete in the elections. The public will also be able to vote at polling stations designated for each constituency, the UEC said.

In addition, the UEC said that it is working to enact and promulgate the relevant Hluttaw election laws and regulations that are consistent with the new electoral system, and that the election representatives will be selected according to the constituencies where the elections will be held. Details will be available once the law is enacted.

The Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine (MEVM) to be used in the upcoming elections will be tested and voted on in central institutions, ministries, universities, The UEC said that it has conducted trial voting in social organizations and 9 regions/states, and political parties, and that it has been verified by voters themselves, and that the trial voting has found no errors.

In addition, the Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine (MEVM) does not include Internet, Wifi, Bluetooth systems, nor does it include Windows operating systems (OS) like computers. It is a microcontroller system, so it is a very simple and secure system. In accordance with the Myanmar Standards Law (2014), the UEC also said that it is working to obtain a national-level certification for the quality and standards of the voting machine.
