A small earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale, centered near Pyay, shook the morning of June 9, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology announced.
According to the statement, at about 9:44 a.m. on June 9, Myanmar Standard Time, a small earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale, centered at 18.83 degrees north latitude, 95.05 degrees east longitude, and 77 kilometers deep, occurred in Myanmar (about 11 miles west of Pyay), about 90 miles northeast of the Gwe Seismological Station.
An aftershock measuring 4 on the Richter scale also struck at about 8:11 a.m. on June 5, about 12 miles southwest of Lewe, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The earthquake caused some students and teachers to flee from their schools in and around Nay Pyi Taw, and parents gathered outside the school building.
Moezala reported that 187 aftershocks had occurred since the 7.7-magnitude earthquake on March 28, as of the morning of June 5.
According to Moezala, these aftershocks occurred in a series of tremors in central Myanmar.
The aftershocks ranged from magnitude 7 to 5, with most of them measuring more than 3 on the Richter scale.
The number of aftershocks decreased significantly after April 20, with only eight occurring as of April 28. The maximum intensity was 3.9 on the Richter scale, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
