89 foreign nationals involved in telecom fraud and other criminal activities have been deported to their respective countries.

Foreign nationals who illegally entered Myanmar through border routes via neighboring countries including Thailand and committed crimes including online gambling and online fraud in Myawaddy Township-Min Letpan and Kyaukt areas of Karen State are being systematically deported. On April 8, 89 foreign nationals were deported to their respective countries through the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge No. (2) in accordance with the law and procedures, in the interests of humanitarian assistance and friendship between countries.

On the morning of April 8, Kayin State Minister for Social Affairs U Saw Htun Aung and officials inspected the deportation processes of the departmental joint teams for foreign nationals, the completeness of the records, and the accuracy of the information and ordered the necessary additions.

Then, the handover ceremony continued with the presence of Karen State Minister for Social Affairs U Saw Tun Aung and officials, Counsellor Mr. Md. Fahad. Pervez. Bosunia and officials from the Bangladesh Embassy in Thailand, Attache and Assistance to Nationals Officer Ms. Musetar Cabrito Moso and officials from the Philippine Embassy in Thailand, Deputy Chief of Mission Mr. Wissem Moatemri and officials from the Embassy of the Republic of Tunisia in Malaysia, Counsellor Mr. Bernaro Yanzy and officials from the Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in Malaysia, Second Secretary Ms. Laina S Mundilo and officials from the Embassy of the Republic of Namibia in Malaysia, Deputy Head of Mission Ms. Madalina Guta and officials from the Embassy of Romania in Thailand, Deputy Chief of Mission Ms. Bui Thi Hue and officials from the Embassy of Vietnam in Thailand, Counsellor Mr. Tanvir Ahmad and officials from the Embassy of Pakistan in Thailand, Officials from the Immigration Department of Thailand’s Tak Province attended, and Myanmar officials systematically handed over the deportation documents to the officials of the relevant countries.

A total of 8,739 foreign nationals who entered Myanmar illegally from January 30 to April 8 were identified and detained, of whom 7,231 were systematically deported to their respective countries through Thailand in accordance with legal procedures. The remaining 1,508 foreign nationals are ready to be transferred to their respective countries and are being well-maintained.

The state is taking steps to identify and arrest those involved in online scam center operations and the foreigners behind them, and is also cooperating to quickly deport foreigners who are suffering for various reasons and foreigners who have been trafficked to their respective countries.
