The 36 teams will start at a minimum of £800,000 depending on their position in the league phase. The prize money will vary depending on the UEFA club rankings. Amazon and TNT distribute their TV revenue based on their Champions League success over the past five years. Manchester United are currently 12th in the UEFA club rankings and, based on that, could earn at least £70m from next season’s Champions League. If they reach the final from the knockout stage, they could earn between £20m and £54m.
Manchester United’s average ticket sales per game this season are £5.2m. The price of home tickets will increase by five per cent next season, which will increase the ticket prices.
