The Union-level Joint Monitoring Committee (JMC-U) has been requested to form a regional-level Joint Monitoring Committee (JMC-L) in Metta township, Dawei township, Tanintharyi Region.

The region is ready for the new (JMC-L) planned to be opened in Metta township, and will begin the process if the Union-level Joint Monitoring Committee (JMC-U) approves it.

Tanintharyi Region Joint Monitoring Committee (JMC-S) Vice Chairman (2) Father Joseph Thein Khin said, “We have submitted the request to JMC-U to open the JMC-L in Metta. If JMC-U accepts and likes it, then we can open it. So, Tanintharyi Region is ready. But we will open it only after JMC-U approves it. (The date when JMC-L can open) is assumed to depend on the work of JMC-U. If they can make a decision after their meeting, it can be done quickly. We cannot say when. We have to abide by their decision.”

Since the newly formed JMC-L is responsible for the people at the grassroots level and the most vulnerable, they have the right to immediately report any problems to the relevant JMC-S (Region and State Level Joint Monitoring Committee on Ceasefire) and JMC-U. Father Joseph Thein Khin said that since they are basic, they can be relied upon as they provide reliable information.
