Former US Vice President Mike Pence criticized the Trump administration’s tariff policy on May 5, saying that potential shortages could lead to a demand from the American people for a different approach from the White House.
In a widely watched interview with CNN, Pence discussed a variety of topics and criticized former President Trump for granting clemency to nearly all of the rioters who were charged with storming the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
During his second term, Donald Trump has imposed various tariffs on nearly all of the US’s trading partners. Trump said that other countries are practicing unfair practices and that Washington needs to balance its trade with all countries.
Mike Pence, who served as Trump’s vice president during his first term, has been at odds with Trump over his claims that the 2020 election was rigged.
Pence said he is concerned that Trump’s tax policies will fuel inflation, hurt consumers and ultimately hurt the U.S. economy, and that they are essentially new industrial policies.
The former vice president also disagrees with Trump on the Russia-Ukraine war. Pence said Russian President Vladimir Putin understands power.
“If the last three years have taught us anything, it is that Vladimir Putin doesn’t want peace, he wants Ukraine,” Pence said.
