Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Executive Council and Prime Minister, said that he would like to invite BIMSTEC member countries to invest in their country’s agriculture and livestock-based industries.
Speaking at the 6th BIMSTEC Summit held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand on the morning of April 4, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Executive Council and Prime Minister, made the following statement:
Myanmar has good water, soil, and climate for agriculture and livestock, and if we combine it with the modern agriculture and livestock-based technologies of BIMSTEC member countries, we are fully confident that it will bring benefits not only to Myanmar but also to regional food security. Therefore, the Chairman of the State Executive Council and Prime Minister said that he would like to invite BIMSTEC member countries to invest in their country’s agriculture and livestock-based industries.
In addition, the Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Assembly of Myanmar, said that it is important to develop trade and investment in building a prosperous BIMSTEC. Although we signed the Framework Agreement on the BIMSTEC Free Trade Area Agreement (FTA) in 2004, we are still far from establishing an FTA. Establishing an FTA will greatly contribute to the economic development of member countries by reducing trade barriers and facilitating trade in goods and services. Therefore, in order to reap the benefits of the FTA, we must accelerate the negotiation and finalization of related agreements, the Prime Minister said.
