Among the BIMSTEC member countries, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Myanmar are frequently affected by natural disasters. In addition, a recent strong earthquake centered in Myanmar has also affected some countries in the region. The earthquake has so far claimed 3,301 lives, injured 4,792 people, and missing 221 people. There is a need for greater regional cooperation in addressing the challenges of natural disasters. The Chairman of the NASC, the Prime Minister, expressed his condolences to the member countries for the loss of life and damage caused by the major earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28, and expressed his gratitude to the Myanmar people for their quick response to the search and rescue operations, and for the rapid delivery of relief and food aid.
In addition, the country is also committed to epidemic prevention, preparedness, The Prime Minister of the National Assembly expressed his gratitude to the World Bank for its offer to support the response, saying that regional security is another key pillar of resilience, and that there is a need for close cooperation between our law enforcement agencies in combating cyber security, maritime security, and transnational crimes such as human trafficking and drug trafficking, as well as online fraud.
The Prime Minister of the National Assembly also said that there is a need to jointly combat online fraud, which is growing regionally and internationally. Myanmar is working with neighboring countries to combat online fraud, and victims of human trafficking are being repatriated to their respective countries to be used in online fraud operations. The Prime Minister of the National Assembly also said that combating online fraud is not a short-term issue, but a permanent one, as it can harm the interests of the people.
